Bedrooms Around the World

Hello, everyone!!

This is my inquiry task for the day. Room 4 sat down today and watched a short 2 minute video
about/showing different bedrooms around the world where some children sleep.

Some of the bedrooms featured in the video were clean and nice, others weren’t so much.
So that’s what this task was all about. We had to select one child and their bedroom (I decided to select three)
and write a little bit about them and the area(s) they sleep, along with the similarities and differences of our bedroom compared to theirs.

In the end, we had a bonus task where we had to get images from online of our dream bedroom.
Although it was weird going from seeing how some kids slept in areas in horrible condition,
(which was very upsetting), to what our dream bedroom would be, this task was a little bit fun.

I hope that some of the children live and sleep in much better places now!!

Home Learning/Reading – Week 4

Hi, everyone!

For homework this week, we had to select a book and write a paragraph
about what we read and our prediction of what we think will happen next.
I chose to read Ella Diaries: Dreams Come True since I haven’t read it in a while, resulting in
me not exactly remembering each and every event that takes place in this book.

The thing with Ella Diaries books are that there are no chapters for each sort of act,
so I just read the first few pages of the book instead.

Official book synopsis for more context:
Ella DREAMS of meeting pop star Cassi Valentine. She has all the song and merchandise- even Bob has a Cassi Valentine bandanna! But when the school enters a competition to win a visit from the star, Ella and her WORST ENEMY EVER, Peach Parker, have to work together. Can they put aside their differences? The whole school is COUNTING on them!

Summary of what I’ve read:
The first thing Ella discusses is how much she absolutely adores Cassi Valentine!! She lists a few things as to why this is, one of those reasons being her song lyrics and music style in general. She even mentions how she has basically every single thing of Cassi Valentine’s like her songs downloaded onto her MP3 player, Cassi Valentine lunchbox and drink bottle, tote bag, and sun visor, even adding in that her dog, (Bob), has a Cassi bandanna!

10 pages into the book, Ella brings up that Cassi’s record company is running a competion where they’d have to make a video about performing arts at their school for a chance for a free lunchtime concert from Cassi herself! Honestly if I were them, I’d be flipping out because imagine having a well-known, famous artist possibly coming to your school?!

My prediction of what’ll happen next:
From the synopsis, I think we can already tell that it won’t exactly be good. The bright side is that Cassi will choose them to be the winning school, (I know this because I’ve read this before and I just have a feeling since this book will most likely have a happy ending), however, Ella will be paired up with Peach who’s literally like her worst enemy in the whole entire galaxy, at this point.

There will definitely be a lot of drama coming up soon but until then, I can’t wait to continue reading this book for either next week’s homework, or just for fun!

Kiwi Kids News – Week 3

Hello, everyone!
Below are the summaries of two Kiwi Kids articles I read for week 3’s homework.

Article one – “Worm with hundreds of bottoms found.”
I think that what the article is about is made very clear in the title. It talks about how a new species of worms with hundreds of bottoms have been discovered.

It mentions that, quote on quote, “The ‘bottoms’ of this worm can detach from the worm’s body and swim away all by themselves.” I thought that that was very cool and a little bit disturbing in a way.

This new species of worms are known to live in sea sponges and have been named by scientists Ramisyllis kingghidorahi, after Godzilla’s multi-headed enemy who is King Ghidorah.

I think that this new species of worms is very fascinating and definitely something new but odd!

Article two – “Walsh lady creates Harry Potter world record.”
To be honest, I mainly just clicked on this article because it mentioned Harry Potter.

Anyway, this article talks about a Welsh woman earning a Guinness World Record for the largest Harry Potter collection. She has collected 5,284 pieces of Harry Potter memorabilia!

Her collection includes toys, key chains, special edition books, illustrations, prop replicas, Lego sets, and a lot more.

I think that this record is definitely very very cool and it’s so amazing how somebody can collect that much Harry Potter merchandise and such! Honestly, I don’t blame her for having so many Harry Potter things.

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ – First Paragraph

Hi, everyone!
This is my literacy/writing task for the day. Yesterday we had to write an introduction, and now we wrote our first paragraph. This week will be mostly focusing on writing since we’ll be having a writing test next week.

FIRST PARAGRAPH

If you want to feel a happy vibe everywhere around you, G.I. is the place to go. Almost everywhere you go in Glen Innes, you are guaranteed to be met with tons of friendly smiles which is something that I personally love about this community. Even when you might be on your way to school, anybody you walk past will greet you with a happy “good morning.” There are many people of many different cultures too, giving you an opportunity to learn more about others’ cultural traditions, backgrounds, etc.

Whakatauki

Hi, everyone!
For our first extension session, we had to search up some whakatauki (proverbs) and their meaning in English.
We had to try and dig deeper into the meaning of a whakatauki of our choice from this slide deck.

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ – Introduction

Hi, everyone!
Yesterday for literacy, I had to list reasons for why Glen Innes is the best community in New Zealand.
Today we had to use the reasons from yesterday to create an introduction paragraph.
Making this short piece of writing was pretty fun but it was also a little bit tricky finding out how to word each sentence.

INTRODUCTION

          Glen Innes, a small community in New Zealand yet full of many people with big hearts. As of 2021, G.I. has become a home to over 8,873 people. The general environment radiates positive and friendly energy, welcoming everybody with open arms. This friendly suburb offers many schools that teach a variety of students of different ages and years, making it a perfect location for you to receive good education. Glen Innes is also packed with a wide range of stores almost everywhere you go, adding to the many reasons why this suburb is the best community in New Zealand.

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ

This is my writing task about why GI (Glen Innes) is the best community in NZ.
I had to list multiple reasons to prove this statement right and each reason is listed below.
I then made the reasons that I would actually use in italic before adding 3 bullet points underneath that reason to break the paragraph apart. We didn’t do any actual writing today, just planning.

– the general environment. (it’s bright and positive.)
• as mentioned above, it’s bright and positive and just generally gives off a good vibe.
• full of friendly people.
• nice plants.

– the many schools.
• many schools that teach students of different years etc.
• the free lunch that gets delivered to the schools.
• tons and tons of people for you to meet and possibly become friends with.

– tons of stores.
• there are many dairies and bakery’s, like, almost everywhere you go.
• many stores that vary in items and things that they sell, making it easy for you to find what you may be looking for.
• the staff/employees are friendly and most are easy to approach.

– interesting and cool artwork (spray) painted on walls.
(I didn’t use this one.)

My Dream Home

Hi, everyone!
This piece of writing is an explanation writing about what my dream home would be.
Writing this was very fun and I really enjoyed visioning the image of my dream home in my mind.

Owning a house with all of the desired features, furniture, and rooms that you could only dream of, would be nice, wouldn’t it? Well, I think that it most definitely would be. So here it is, my dream home!

Let’s begin with the exterior.
Ideally, the outside would be painted a chiffon white and there would be some short-ish flowers propped inside of two white and small baskets that are connected to the bottom of a window sill.

The grass surrounding the home would be trimmed to a very short length. The entire exterior and house itself would give off the vibes of the light cottagecore aesthetic.

The house would have one flight of stairs with my bedroom located somewhere up there.

Walking inside, the hallway would be a huge, open space with shiny and clean walls. My dream home would absolutely not have a chandelier because I can’t imagine what I would do and the mess it would make if the fancy piece of decoration shattered.

My dream kitchen would be not too small but also not too big either. I don’t have any desired features for the kitchen, but I would love a small island. The living room would be small with soft and comfortable couches.

Somewhere upstairs in my dream house, there’d be a seperate room that would be the movie theater! It would have a wide screen with a few rows of seats (around 4), and in the front, there’d be some beanbags. This is apart of my dream house because it would be so exciting having a movie theater.

Like, you don’t need to go to the mall or something, you can just stay inside and enjoy a movie or show in the comfort of your own home! And, I don’t know about you, but I enjoy staying at home most of the time.

Something I’m not so sure if I’d want in my dream house is a library. It would definitely be cool if the room would be full of shelves that have books that I would enjoy reading. For example, wouldn’t it be insanely cool if there were all of the Harry Potter books inside of the library? I would love that.

Of course, I can’t forget my bedroom! It wouldn’t be too big, but big enough so things like a bed, mirror, and drawers can all be spread about. I would definitely love a small seat that is placed near a window with that part of the room curving in – I hope that’s how you word it?

In the backyard, there’d be a wide swimming pool built into the ground with a swing located somewhere near the fence that would separate my house from the neighbors.

So that’s my dream home; what would yours be like? Would it have similar features to mine? Or would yours be the total and complete opposite? Writing this was super fun and maybe one day I’ll actually be able to own a house similar to the one described in this piece of writing!
