Commonwealth Games

Hi, everyone!

Currently, the Commonwealth Games are taking place in Birmingham, England and will be finishing today. So, for Literacy this morning, we had to do a bit of research on the multi-sport event.

Below is my finished presentation and I’ll be posting my create task for it soon after this :))

Measurement – Conversions

Hi, everyone!

This is my maths task for today. It is all about converting measurements. So like, grams into kilograms, centimetres into metres, etc. I found this task quite nice and I’ve already learnt about converting measurements at the library with my study group so that was a little bit of pre-learning, I guess.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy :))

T3W1 : HW Literacy

Hi, everyone!

For the literacy section in this week’s homework sheet, I had to write a six sentence story based on an image. The vibe that I got from it was a really gloomy one, but there was one small thing that the man in the image held that shone brightly nonetheless, and it was a few roses!

So I decided to turn that little detail into a piece of writing with a meaning behind it.

Basically, say the man in the story is you, and you feel like you’re ready to give up, but there are a few roses (which is hope and motivation, etc) which keep you going. The meaning is not only about never giving up, but that self care is not selfish, and you should never have to worry or feel guilty about taking time off to focus on yourself :))

━━━━━━━━━━

(1) As the cool breeze nibbled hastily at his bare skin and the clothes that he wore which were his only source of warmth, the man let out a sigh of exhaustion. (2) “So this is how it feels to give up?” the man asked himself in his head. (3) As the unsettling darkness began swallowing the man whole, he felt as if every positive emotion had left his body. (4) But even so, in the corner of his eyes sparkled a few glittering roses. (5) Bending over to pick them up, he realised that there was still hope and it gave him motivation to keep going. (6) He realised that although he felt drained, he could always keep going when he was ready.

A Surprise Local Delicacy

Hi, everyone!

This morning during literacy, my class had to partner up with a buddy to try a surprise “local delicacy” (as Mr. Moran described it). I looked forward to it, but was also very nervous. Below is a short descriptive piece of writing based on what happened! :))

━━━━━━━━━━

Usually when you get told that you’d be eating a local delicacy blindfolded as it would a surprise, you would think that you’d be munching on some sort of sweet treat with a gentle coat of sugar on top. Well that was what I convinced myself into believing, and I was totally wrong. My sweet fantasy would soon be disrupted by the citric acid coating on a small sphere that would be stinging my tongue like there was no tomorrow.

Because I couldn’t see it at first, the acid felt sort of spiky, and I almost thought that it would be some sort of insect’s head. It didn’t help that beforehand, Maria was gagging and saying stuff like, “Ew, it looks so weird!”

I first smelt it, but for me, it didn’t really have a scent at all. So when it was time to taste the treat, I was too nervous that I just took a small lick, but even so, it was still so incredibly sour that I most definitely was not going to eat the rest of it.

Art Works

Hello everyone!

Because today is the first day of Term 3, Pt England School had an immersion assembly this morning for us to get introduced into this term’s inquiry theme. “Art Works” is what the teachers decided on. Each team will be learning about different types and forms of art such as acting, painting, singing, etc!

My favourite act/item from this morning is probably Team 1’s because the teachers from there drew a simple silhouette of a human body, but as Mr J read out some scenarios, they painted parts of the body certain colours to represent the emotions that they were feeling. Yellow for joy, blue for sadness, and such!

At first, I wasn’t too sure what the colours meant until a little bit later, but even so, the meaning behind the artwork about feelings I think is very beautiful and shows that everybody feels different emotions and that’s okay.

I’m very excited for this term and the things that Team 5 will learn because I generally just love art. I look forward to everything that I’ll be creating and doing this term, and I hope you are, too :))

Mount Wellington Drawing (Before and After)

Hello, everyone!

In the image attached below in this blog post is the final product of my before and after Mount Wellington Google Drawing! I’m really happy with the way it turned out.

As you can see, there is quite a large difference between the left and ride side of the drawing. One of the main differences being the difference between the living situations. In the “before” side, there are huts, whilst in the “after” side, there are some more modern homes.

The reason why I put a lake on the “before” side is because the Tāmaki River/Estuary would help travellers to get wherever they wanted to easily. So back then, having access to many parts of Aotearoa easily would’ve be extremely helpful.

I hope you like it :))
