Hand Span Investigation

Hello, everyone!!

This is my maths task for the week and it was all about measuring the hand span of student’s from Team 5 (but I measured just students from Room 4) and I also had to make a bar graph using the data I collected too.

This task was quite hard to do and it did take me a while since I was busy with other things but I hope you enjoy!

Narrative Based on An Image

Hello, everyone!!

For today’s writing task, I had to write a short narrative based on an image. I chose the image added below, and you can see that it definitely gives off a creepy energy. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this short piece of writing :))

━━━━━━━━━━

Alyvia Jones was as curious as a cat. It was no secret to everybody around her that she was constantly running around town, insisting to herself that there was something waiting to be discovered. Something waiting to be discovered by her.

And because of her odd behaviour, she had no friends.. No, like, seriously. It’s just herself, this skeleton of a creature that she had found in a forest a few weeks ago, and her big brain which she had named “Kelly” when she was younger.

The Sun began to set, slowly disappearing behind a crowd of trees, and a shiver crawled down Alyvia’s spine as a wave of breeze washed over her for a split second. She could feel tiny drops of fresh water leak from the grey clouds above her, and she sighed.

“Come on, Sundrop,” she spoke to the dirty skeleton in her hands. “let’s go.”

It wasn’t until she heard the sound of dry grass crunching together that she had not stopped walking. Slowly spinning herself around to face the large body of water from behind her, Alyvia felt her grip on her pocket knife from inside of her pocket tighten.

With caution, Alyvia took slow and steady steps towards the river, and her eyebrows knitted together once her eyes landed on two filthy hands with dirt caked underneath the long and sharp fingernails.

Alyvia was frozen in place with her breath hitched.

That was when suddenly, the pair of hands helped themself up on their own, and Alyvia realised that something was off..

There was no body connected.

The Korero’s from W1 – W5

Hi, everyone!!

Below are some of the recent korero’s that the other prefects and I (along with some of the house captains for the last and most recent korero) have put together so far. One of our korero’s (“Respond on Time”) was portrayed as a play, so it’s not included in this blog post.

I hope you enjoy :))

Writing Challenge – March 1

Hi, everyone!!

This was my writing task for the day. I had to write a six sentence story based on the image displayed below whilst also including the four words (which you can also see below) in the story. This task was quite easy and fun to do and I hope you enjoy reading it :))

━━━━━━━━━━

  • Never
  • Because
  • Eerie
  • Suddenly,

(1) An eerie feeling entrapped me inside of it’s deep silence, and shivers ran down my spine. (2) I could feel each and every individual piece of hair on my body stand up as I travelled further down the alley way. (3) Because I had never gone through this tunnel before, I felt uneasy and my stomach began to bubble. (4) Suddenly, a bright flame of light came into view and I began approaching it with speed. (5) I sighed and relaxed my tense body immediately as I exited the tunnel. (6) Sighing as I continued on my way home, my lips tugged upwards slightly in response to the relief I was feeling.

Bedrooms Around the World

Hello, everyone!!

This is my inquiry task for the day. Room 4 sat down today and watched a short 2 minute video
about/showing different bedrooms around the world where some children sleep.

Some of the bedrooms featured in the video were clean and nice, others weren’t so much.
So that’s what this task was all about. We had to select one child and their bedroom (I decided to select three)
and write a little bit about them and the area(s) they sleep, along with the similarities and differences of our bedroom compared to theirs.

In the end, we had a bonus task where we had to get images from online of our dream bedroom.
Although it was weird going from seeing how some kids slept in areas in horrible condition,
(which was very upsetting), to what our dream bedroom would be, this task was a little bit fun.

I hope that some of the children live and sleep in much better places now!!

Belonging and Communities Workbook

Hi, everyone!!

For my inquiry task, I had to work on a workbook all about belonging and communities.
I hope you enjoy and please ignore how badly photo shopped my poster is, I didn’t really know
how else to display me with the community I most belonged to lol :))

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ – First Paragraph

Hi, everyone!
This is my literacy/writing task for the day. Yesterday we had to write an introduction, and now we wrote our first paragraph. This week will be mostly focusing on writing since we’ll be having a writing test next week.

━━━━━━━━━━

FIRST PARAGRAPH

If you want to feel a happy vibe everywhere around you, G.I. is the place to go. Almost everywhere you go in Glen Innes, you are guaranteed to be met with tons of friendly smiles which is something that I personally love about this community. Even when you might be on your way to school, anybody you walk past will greet you with a happy “good morning.” There are many people of many different cultures too, giving you an opportunity to learn more about others’ cultural traditions, backgrounds, etc.

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ – Introduction

Hi, everyone!
Yesterday for literacy, I had to list reasons for why Glen Innes is the best community in New Zealand.
Today we had to use the reasons from yesterday to create an introduction paragraph.
Making this short piece of writing was pretty fun but it was also a little bit tricky finding out how to word each sentence.

━━━━━━━━━━

INTRODUCTION

Glen Innes, a small community in New Zealand yet full of many people with big hearts. As of 2021, G.I. has become a home to over 8,873 people. The general environment radiates positive and friendly energy, welcoming everybody with open arms. This friendly suburb offers many schools that teach a variety of students of different ages and years, making it a perfect location for you to receive good education. Glen Innes is also packed with a wide range of stores almost everywhere you go, adding to the many reasons why this suburb is the best community in New Zealand.

Reasons Why GI is The Best Community in NZ

Hello, everyone!
This is my writing task about why GI (Glen Innes) is the best community in NZ.
I had to list multiple reasons to prove this statement right and each reason is listed below.
I then made the reasons that I would actually use in italic before adding 3 bullet points underneath that reason to break the paragraph apart. We didn’t do any actual writing today, just planning.

━━━━━━━━━━

REASONS
– the general environment. (it’s bright and positive.)
• as mentioned above, it’s bright and positive and just generally gives off a good vibe.
• full of friendly people.
• nice plants.

– the many schools.
• many schools that teach students of different years etc.
• the free lunch that gets delivered to the schools.
• tons and tons of people for you to meet and possibly become friends with.

– tons of stores.
• there are many dairies and bakery’s, like, almost everywhere you go.
• many stores that vary in items and things that they sell, making it easy for you to find what you may be looking for.
• the staff/employees are friendly and most are easy to approach.

– interesting and cool artwork (spray) painted on walls.
(I didn’t use this one.)
